We encourage this amount of time for your benefit – ultimately, your education is in your hands. We deliver content at the highest quality to create genuine, well-informed, passionate, highly educated yoga teachers and therapists who understand a solid evidence-based combination with the tradition of yoga. The formally marked requirements are easy to complete, so it is really up to you how much effort you put in.
We are an integrated institution that combines traditional and modern methodologies with a biomedical informed basis. We engage teachers from all different traditions and from all over the world. We teach our foundational course primarily from a modern Hatha Yoga perspective. However, we have specialty intensives that utilise: Kundalini Yoga, Viniyoga, Iyengar Yoga, Satyananda Yoga, Trauma Informed Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Compassion based Yoga Therapy, ACT & Mindfulness Therapy, and iRest, to name a few.
As aforementioned we are an integrated institution that combines both traditional and modern methodologies with a biomedical informed basis. Our meditation courses have a strong focus on the juxtaposition between the Tradition of Yoga and Theravada Buddhism.
We teach sequencing by following sequencing formulas explained within the BIYOME manuals. However, sequencing is a learned skill attained through continued practice and dedication; we advise following in audio, visual classes, and (in yoga courses) written sequences. If you are taking our face-to-face courses, we teach in person. If you are taking our online courses, you may like to choose to have a mentoring session privately if you need more help. We also recommend the book Yoga Sequencing by Mark Stephens for extra help.
Assessment requirements vary depending on the course you are undertaking. In most cases, assessment includes completion of multiple-choice questions and teaching a live yoga or meditation class via Zoom. If you require further details specific to your enrolment, please email admin@biyome.com.au.
We recommend a minimum of 30 minutes a day, however ideally when learning to teach an hour to an hour and a half is recommended.

Technically, you need to complete a minimum of 200 hours of formal training to obtain a qualification that entitles you to apply for insurance to teach yoga. Formal training consists of yoga teacher training courses that are offered with the intention to provide a qualification. For example, undertaking 200 hours of yoga classes does not qualify you as a yoga teacher for insurance purposes. It is a good idea to enrol in a course that is registered and recognised by an industry body to ensure you can obtain adequate insurance. BIYOME courses are recognised by Yoga Australia. A 200-hour qualification is a provisional membership only, and you will need to upgrade to 350 hours by studying an extra 150 hours of training to become a registered teacher. For this reason, we often recommend that you begin with 350 hrs to save on costs if that is how you wish to proceed.
While we recommend joining Yoga Australia, Yoga Alliance, or the Meditation Association of Australia, you do not need to be a member of any industry body to be a qualified and insured teacher.
To obtain provisional membership with Yoga Australia, you must initially complete a 200-hour teacher training course and can begin to teach with insurance on this Provisional membership. To obtain full membership with Yoga Australia, you require a minimum of 350 hours of formal training that has been approved by the governing body. You can find out about Yoga Australia membership here.
To obtain membership with Yoga Alliance, you generally only require a minimum of 200 hours of formal training, however, 500 hours is recommended.
To join an industry body, you must demonstrate your qualifications with your certificate of completion (BIYOME certificate) and often undertake First Aid Training. If the course you undertake is not registered with that body from another institution, you may need to provide evidence that it meets the industry body’s criteria for membership. All of Biyome’s yoga teacher training courses, including 20-hour and 50-hour short courses, are registered with Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance and accrue CPD points with both associations.
To attain membership with The Meditation Association of Australia, you require a minimum of 110 hours of formal training that has been approved by the governing body. You can find out about The Meditation Association of Australia membership here. Biyome offers further training and mentorship beyond the 110-hour course when you undertake a 330MTT, 660MTT or 1000MTT course through our institute.
Yes, you should take out insurance public liability and medical malpractice/professional indemnity if you plan to teach yoga or meditation. Insurance to teach yoga or meditation can be obtained through most insurance companies.
The course meets all requirements and I remain your mentor for the duration of the course. BIYOME has an “over provide” policy – we offer materials to you that go well beyond the requirements of both Yoga Australia and Meditation Australia. You do not require further mentoring outside of the course structure provided to you.
I have read through the Yoga Australia Membership information brochure as well as the Meditation Association of Australia brochure, which provide tables of the curriculum outcomes to be met for each different level of membership. Am I right to assume that BIYOME courses meets the requirements outlined on these documents?
That is perfectly correct – we pride ourselves on our course content – All our courses 20hr, 50hr, 200hr, 350, 500hr, 1000hr Master of Yoga Therapy are registered with Yoga Australia and our 110hr, 330hr, 660hr Meditation courses are all registered with The Meditation Association of Australia.
A Membership with Yoga Australia and/or Yoga Alliance allows you to be insured worldwide! In fact, we have many international online students seeking to teach in their home towns as well as to travel abroad to teach or teach via live-stream internationally.
If you wish to teach yoga in the USA, we encourage you to join Yoga Alliance over Yoga Australia.
Yoga Australia offers worldwide recognition, but not in the USA.
Yoga Alliance is recognised worldwide.
If you choose to study Yoga Therapy with Biyome, this qualification is recognised through Yoga Australia, and you can receive reciprocal international recognition and membership with the International Association of Yoga Therapists upon completion of your Yoga Therapy training (1000hrs minimum).

We require approximately 12 months of yoga practice; however, we are open and love to discuss things personally should you wish to. Our application forms are located HERE and simply require an understanding of your interest level and any relevant medical history. We do not pass judgment on this information, it is simply to get to know you better so as we can assist you in finding the perfect course match for your needs and desires. Please do feel free to request a call should you wish to talk to Celia personally.
We are happy to issue recognition for prior learning (RPL) should you have qualifications from other registered yoga and meditation teacher training institutions. This recognition comes at a cost of $50/50 hours of learning. Your qualifications must be in line with Yoga Australia, Yoga Alliance, or the Meditation Association of Australia’s membership criteria. All BIYOME certifications are recognised without charge.
