Yoga and Ayurveda

The goal of both Yoga and Ayurveda is liberation.
Yoga & Ayurveda are sister sciences to be practised side by side. Yoga is the science of the mind. Ayurveda is about healing the body-mind and removal of toxins or waste.

In Ayurveda, we come to recognise that the body is a representation of the universe and the universe is a representation of the body.

The realisation that the entire universe is within you and that you are one and the same as the universe is called “Satya-buddhi”. The word literally means true intelligence. To bring this awareness into function is the real goal of human life.

Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences that bring about liberation. Undeniably, that is the goal of both: enlightenment or self-realisation.

Yoga for Self-Realisation

Yoga refers to the ancient system of yogic practices rooted in the Vedas, which are the oldest sacred texts of India, which encompasses a comprehensive approach to self-realisation and spiritual evolution.

In essence, the Yoga & Ayurveda Teacher Training at Biyome serves as a gateway to timeless wisdom, leading individuals toward self-realisation, inner tranquillity, and alignment with the cosmic principles outlined in the Vedas. It serves as a profound guide for those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in the universe.

Ayurveda for Self-Realisation

The healing practices under Ayurveda encompass a wide array of methods, including herbal medicines, yoga, specific diets, meditation, self-enquiry, Ayurvedic psychology, and massage. Approximately 80% of the population in India and Nepal actively engages with Ayurvedic medicine, and you can study the roots of Yoga and Ayurveda in the Motherland. More and more in the West, we see Western Medical health professionals starting to implement the traditional wisdom medicines into public understanding and professional private practice.

Ayurveda, with its dual objectives, serves two primary purposes:

Preservation of Health: Focused on maintaining the well-being of individuals who are already healthy.

Alleviation of Suffering and Ultimate Life Goal: Addresses the well-being of those facing ailments, aiming to cure diseases and guide individuals towards the ultimate life goal of complete liberation or Moksha.

This is achieved by adhering to the four principles of life:

  • Dharma: Performing actions that contribute to personal and societal well-being.
  • Artha: Attaining sufficient wealth to fulfil one’s Dharma.
  • Kama: Seeking satisfaction in appropriate desires and passions.
  • Moksha: Achieving salvation through liberation and self-realisation.

Ayurveda, originating from the Vedas, evolved from a mystical and religious perspective to a more scientifically grounded approach. The Sanskrit texts categorise Ayurveda into eight limbs:

  • Kāyachikitsā: General medicine.
  • Kaumāra-bhṛtya: Paediatrics.
  • Śalyatantra: Surgery.
  • Śhālākyatantra: Ears, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery.
  • Bhūtavidyā: Psychiatry, dealing with negative energies.
  • Agadatantra/Vishagara-vairodh Tantra: Toxicology.
  • Rasāyantantra: Science of rejuvenation.
  • Vājīkaraṇatantra: Science of aphrodisiacs, sexual energy, and treatment.

You will learn more about each of these eight branches of Ayurveda to give you a broader perspective on how to treat the individual according to their constitution and ailment.

Understanding that the entire universe is within you and recognising your oneness with the cosmos is referred to as “Satya-buddhi,” which literally translates to true intelligence. The genuine aim of human life is to actualise this awareness. The entire universe exists within our body and mind, encouraging us to dive within for the answers we seek. The wisdom we yearn for is an inherent aspect of our being, patiently awaiting our discovery. The study of Vedas points us back to this truth.
The universe is within you.
Let our studies begin.
