CPD23 Certificate in Psychedelic Preparation & Integration Therapy for Allied Health Professionals

A Continuing Professional Development Specialty Intensive

This 50-hour training is designed for psychiatrists, general practitioners, psychologists, psychotherapists, somatic therapists, counsellors, Indigenous practitioners and allied mental-health professionals seeking safe, ethical and evidence-informed skills in psychedelic preparation and integration therapy. The course supports clinicians working alongside authorised prescribers within Australia’s regulated psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAT/PAP) framework.

The program aligns with the RANZCP Psychedelic Training Framework, emphasising:

  • theoretical and evidence-based foundations
  • safety, ethics and clinical risk management
  • clearly defined professional boundaries
  • trauma-responsive care and reflective practice
  • supervised skills development appropriate to allied-health scope

It also meets PACFA Category A CPD standards through its evidence-informed curriculum, clinical relevance, cultural safety, ethical integrity and trauma-responsive orientation. This course is additionally a Yoga Australia registered 50-hour training module, integrating yogic traditions respectfully and without cultural appropriation.

Delivered as part of BIYOME’s 200PAP Graduate Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted PsychoSomatic Therapy, CPD23 prepares allied health professionals to provide high-quality preparation and integration support before and after legally sanctioned psychedelic-assisted therapy administered by authorised psychiatrists and medical practitioners. The emphasis is on stabilisation, insight integration, behavioural change and long-term wellbeing—work that remains firmly within allied-health scope.

Evidence, Context and Cultural Care

Psychedelic-assisted therapy is an emerging field supported by increasing international research in PTSD, treatment-resistant depression, addiction and existential distress. In Australia, MDMA- and psilocybin-assisted therapy may only be administered by psychiatrists authorised under the TGA’s Authorised Prescriber pathway, with treatment delivered under strict medico-legal safeguards.

This course addresses the growing need for allied health clinicians who can safely support clients during preparation and integration. Many individuals draw on contemplative, mind–body and somatic practices—including meditation and yoga—to regulate emotional mindfulness, stabilise insights and navigate consciousness before, during and after therapeutic dosing sessions. However, few clinicians receive formal training in these approaches.

This 4-day module bridges this gap by integrating evidence-informed psychotherapy, contemplative practices, somatic awareness and culturally respectful yoga-based and somatic based therapy. All yogic and meditative elements are taught with explicit acknowledgement of their cultural origins and without equating traditional spiritual practices with clinical psychedelic therapies.

Historical and Cross-Cultural Perspectives

The course examines historical and cross cultural perspectives on exploring consciousness, such as those found in Buddhist and yogic traditions, through an academically grounded and culturally respectful lens. These perspectives are presented as reflective frameworks that support grounding, embodiment and meaning making during integration, rather than as substitutes for clinical psychedelic therapy.

Meditative and contemplative states are discussed alongside neuroscientific research on attention, interoception and self regulation, ensuring that traditional knowledge is integrated without romanticisation or cultural appropriation.

Clinical Focus and Safety

CPD23 provides a strong foundation for supporting clients through psychedelic-related processes, including:

  • psychological readiness and intention setting
  • emotional regulation and grounding
  • trauma-responsive support
  • meaning-making and insight integration
  • relapse prevention and behavioural stabilisation
  • interprofessional collaboration
  • referral pathways and boundary clarity

All content remains within the legal, ethical and professional scope of allied-health practice in Australia.

Online and face-to-face faculty include consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, researchers and senior contemplative practitioners, ensuring alignment with current evidence, RANZCP guidance and TGA-approved pathways.

Psychedelic-assisted therapy is still a relatively new and emerging field, and many factors must be considered before pursuing this type of treatment. Patients should only undergo psychedelic-assisted therapy under the guidance of a trained and licensed medical professional in a controlled and medically supervised environment. Overall, while the use of psychedelic substances in therapy is still a controversial and evolving field, the promising results of recent research suggest that they may offer new and effective treatment options for patients struggling with mental health conditions. Please note that BIYOME does not endorse using psychedelic medicine without professional guidance and support.

Participation in psychedelic medicine work in the legal community context with MDMA and Psilocybin is always dependent upon TGA and HREC protocol approvals and legislation requirements.

BIYOME’s Specialty Intensive Teacher Training can be undertaken as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with Yoga Australia. Please contact us for more information.
