It can be difficult to choose the path to peace.
Yet when we pause to feel its quiet rhythm, we remember it is deeply, undeniably worth it.
So often in our devotion as practitioners, parents, and teachers, we carry a subtle, hurried effort—a silent striving to fix, to heal, or to carry another across the threshold.
Yet true transformation has never been born of force or urgency.

John Muir once spoke gently of his distaste for the word “hike,” quietly turning away from the hurried spirit it carries. Instead, he pointed toward the lost art of sauntering—a word born from the ancient journey of pilgrims travelling à la Sainte Terre, toward the Holy Land.
To saunter is to move slowly, reverently, and with wonder. Perhaps the wild trees, the endless ocean, and the sacred, breathing earth beneath our feet are our Holy Land. When we walk beside them with quiet reverence, allowing each slow breath and each grounded step to anchor us, our work ceases to be an effort. It becomes a living pilgrimage.

When we rest deeply enough to listen, we remember: we cannot rush another person’s awakening. We cannot force the tides of external change.
Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj mirrored this truth with timeless clarity:
“It is neither necessary, nor possible to change others. But if you can change yourself you will find that no other change is needed. To change the picture you merely change the film, you do not attack the cinema screen!”
To push transformation onto a client, child, or student is to attack the cinema screen. The screen can only ever reflect the light passing through the lens.
In every session, in every quiet room, you are the projector and the film. (Profound meditation with Rupert Spira here for you).

Your steady breath, your regulated nervous system, and your willingness to sit in stillness are the true medicine you bring into the world. When you shift the film within yourself, the picture in the room changes on its own.
