Expanding Your Scope of Practice
As a graduate of BIYOME’s nationally and internationally recognised training programs in therapeutic yoga, embodied medicine, and meditation, you are part of a growing network of professionals delivering trauma-informed, evidence-based care. With recent policy changes in both Private Health Insurance and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), new funding pathways have opened for BIYOME trainers to deliver accessible, meaningful services to a broader range of clients.
Private Health Insurance Rebates Return for Yoga (April 2025)
As of April 2025, yoga is once again eligible for private health insurance rebates under certain Extras policies. While insurers are not required to include yoga, several major providers—such as Bupa, Medibank, HBF, nib, and HIF—have begun reintroducing yoga under categories like “Healthy Lifestyle” or “Health Management.”
Key Conditions for Rebates
To ensure your clients can access private health rebates for yoga services, the following conditions typically apply:
- The client must hold an eligible Extras policy that covers yoga or health management services.
- The yoga teacher must be registered with Yoga Australia or another insurer-approved professional body.
As a BIYOME-certified yoga and meditation teacher, you meet the training standards required for recognition by leading industry bodies. This positions you to offer credible, claimable services that enhance your professional profile and expand your client base.

NDIS Funding for Yoga-Based Therapeutic Services
Although yoga therapy was formally removed from the NDIS registered support list in 2024, there remain viable and important avenues for funding through self-managed and plan-managed participant pathways. This allows participants to choose practitioners—like BIYOME-trained professionals—whose services are aligned with their NDIS goals.
Eligible Yoga Services Under NDIS May Include:
- Trauma-informed yoga for mental health and emotional regulation
- Movement-based therapy to improve mobility and balance
- Somatic practices that support body awareness and self-regulation
These services may be funded under categories such as:
- Capacity Building – Improved Health & Wellbeing
- Community Participation or Daily Living
- Support Worker–assisted programs, where yoga is incorporated into daily activities
To be eligible for NDIS funding, the service must meet the following criteria:
- Be considered “reasonable and necessary”
- Directly support the client’s NDIS goals, as outlined in their plan
- Be delivered by a provider with relevant qualifications and experience
BIYOME’s evidence-based, trauma-informed approach aligns closely with the NDIS emphasis on client-centered, goal-directed outcomes. Trainers may work independently, as part of a disability support organisation, or in collaboration with registered allied health professionals such as psychologists, physiotherapists, or occupational therapists.

Expanding Your Professional Impact
Both private health and NDIS pathways present opportunities to contribute meaningfully to community health, integrative medicine, and disability support services. As a BIYOME graduate, your training equips you to:
- Deliver high-quality, ethical care
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams
- Align your services with evidence-based frameworks and national policy
- Advocate for greater accessibility to therapeutic yoga and meditation
These developments enhance your ability to offer reimbursable services in clinical, educational, and community-based settings—broadening your impact and supporting diverse populations.
